Omicron Xi Herstory
The Vision
On March 29, 1998, five young ladies of Rhodes College envisioned a life with undying loyalty and sisterhood for one another. These rising sophomores maintained similar dreams to the seven founders of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority, Incorporated founded on November 12, 1922, at Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana. With ambitions for a sorority devoted to assisting others, these ladies labored to establish a chapter of an organization that upheld the same moral ideals that they held fast.
The Actualization
On October 3, 1998, the dreams of these five ambitious ladies became a reality. On this warm fall day, the Omicron Xi Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho was founded by Cynthia Allen, Camille Edwards, LaShanda Greene, Monique Labat, and Evelyn Toler. The monumental event marked the end of a seven month journey for these five young ladies, while beginning a legacy that will last throughout eternity.
The Future
The ladies of Omicron Xi believe strongly in furthering the aim of community service. We are bound by ties of love and sisterhood and a genuine sense of commitment to our community. We constantly pursue our goals of self-improvement, motivating youth, and promoting high scholastic achievement. Our unfaltering dedication to service is exemplified in Sigma’s national motto “Greater Service, Greater Progress.” We are unparalleled by any other. As Sigma women, we represent a nationwide sisterhood that attracts all women. For within Sigma Gamma Rho, one may find the making of a fine and true character.
